Tecomaria capensis

Cape Honesuckle

OVERVIEW

Tecomaria capensis is widely acknowledged as Cape honeysuckle. This shrub/vine can grow to be upwards of 10ft when tended to as a shrub, and up to 30 feet if trained to become a vine. In warm, humid climates, Tecomaria capensis can become invasive, but in the Sonoran Desert it’s aggressive growth is favorable given our arid climate. Pruning is necessary to both keep the plant at bay and encourage healthy new growth. It’s medicinal properties are widely utilized in parts of South Africa, where it has been known to relive pain, stress, insomnia, and bronchitis.
