Portulacaria afra

Elephant’s Food

OVERVIEW

Portulacaria afra, lovingly referred to as ‘Elephant’s Food’, hails from Africa and is a primary source of sustenance for migratory elephant herds. Adapted to the deserts of the American Southwest, this luscious succulent is popular for its dense, bright leaves and bright mahogany stems. Commonly added to decorative pots and cactus gardens, it’s drought-tolerant nature and ability to handle full sun make it a popular selection amongst landscapers, landscape architects and homeowners.
