OVERVIEW:
Penstamon eatonii is a showy, herbaceous perennial that is native to the southwestern United States, spanning from southern California up to the Rocky Mountains. Come summer, this plant boasts several erect stems that contain anywhere from 5 - 15 orange-red tubular flowers, a natural host for pollinators such as hummingbirds, bees, and more. With a wide-spanning and fibrous foot base, it’s an excellent choice for low-water yards, desertscapes, and rock gardens. It is also a common plant used in restoration habitats, from preserves to wildlife cooridors. This plant was utilized by numerous indigenous peoples as a natural pain reliever, and is safe to have around pets.
