Acacia stenophylla

Shoestring Acacia

OVERVIEW:

Acacia stenophylla, commonly known as the Shoe-String Acacia, is a member of the Fabaceae family. This genus grows quickly to heights of approx. 30 feet tall and 20 feet wide. Foliage showcases long narrow and slightly twisted, drooping leaves (phyllodes) on weeping branches. Small rounded yellow flowers appear in late winter to spring followed by clusters of brown seed pods. New bark emerges maroon in color and matures to a dark grey/brown. Minimal pruning is needed to reinforce the structure and form. Very drought tolerant once established needing only a monthly watering. Recommended soils include red sandy clays with a neutral to alkaline pH. Propagation is primarily done by seed germination and known to reseed itself in favorable conditions.
